Pearl Jam kick off their ‘No Code’ tour in Seattle’s Key Arena. Despite this, the tour is mainly focussed on Eastern States after the band refuse to play Ticketmaster venues, though many fans complain of difficulty in securing tickets for the gigs.
#OnThisDay September 17, 1959
Happy birthday to Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory, which makes it as good a time as any to groove on down to the electro-glam stack-heeled stomper that it ‘Ooh La la’!
#OnThisDay September 18, 1973
The Sweet ram-raid the UK singles charts when stack-heeled stomping glam classic ‘The Ballroom Blitz’ crashes in at No.2, where it also peaks. Altogether now: “The man at the back said ‘Everyone attack..!’”

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band play the No Nukes: The Muse Concerts For a Non-Nuclear Future at Madison Square Gardens. Included in the set is the fabled ‘Detroit Medley’, which features covers performed by Mitch Ryder And The Detroit Wheels in the 60s. Check out this rare footage here.

Bay City Rollers take the tartan across the water to make their debut US TV performance when they appear on the legendary Saturday Night Live. So what better song to celebrate the fact?

Adam And The Ants hit the top slot for the second time in the UK charts with ‘Prince Charming’. Did you know that the hand movements in the Prince Charming dance had a meaning with each representing an element of Adam’s personality? They were Pride, Courage, Humour and Flair.

Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, John Denver and Kris Kristofferson are just some of the names appearing at the Farm Aid concert in aid of American farmers. Performing to a crowd of 80,000 people, it takes place at the Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois.
