#OnThisDay January 6, 1962
Elvis Presley scores his third No. 1 album with the soundtrack to the movie, ‘Blue Hawaii’. The album is so successful that it spends a total of an incredible 18 weeks in pole position. Did you know that actress Angela Lansbury, who plays Elvis’ mum in the film, was just 11 years older than The King when the film was made?

#OnThisDay January 7, 1971
Black Sabbath’s second album, ‘Paranoid’, sees the light of the day in the US. Recalling the album’s creation in his autobiography, ‘I Am Ozzy’, frontman Ozzy Osbourne wrote: “[Bassist] Geezer [Butler] came up with these heavy duty lyrics about death and destruction. No wonder we never got any chicks at our gigs.”

You better watch out if you’ve got long, black hair! The Sweet ram raid the UK singles charts when the mighty ‘Block Buster’ enters at No. 16. It goes on to spend five weeks at the top and it also goes to No. 1 in in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Ireland as well as New Zealand! Talk about a fine way to start the New Year, eh?

Elvis Presley tops the UK charts with ‘Jailhouse Rock’, which had been specially re-released to mark the 70th anniversary of The King’s birth.

Scottish new wavers Altered Images rise three places in the Top 10 singles chart to peak at No, 7 with their fourth single, ‘I Could Be Happy’. It remains in the charts for an incredible 12 weeks.

Sailor’s insanely catchy single, ‘A Glass Of Champagne’, peaks at No. 2 in the UK singles chart where it resides for a total of three weeks.

AC/DC kick off their ‘Ballbreaker’ world tour in Greensboro, North Carolina. The tour lasts an incredible 11 months and comes to a thrilling climax on November 30 in Christchurch, New Zealand.
