Vinyl of the Week: Run The Jewels

July 17, 2015

This week Sara from our tram picked Run The Jewels 2 as her vinyl of the week. Find out why…

“To me, Hip-Hop is all about story-telling and Run The Jewels 2 is jam packed with layered lyrical detail. From taking on scenario roles to using the tried and tested, call and response method, Killer Mike and EI-P guide you through their world with such specifics that you can almost see everything playing out around you as you listen. The album has a rock solid foundation of bass-heavy beats adding a heavy punch to the words with one of my favourite drummers ever, Travis Barker, even stepping up to supply the driving force to “All Due Respect” with signature gusto.  Quality hip-hop shows you something new with every listen, and experiencing this on vinyl intensifies that letting you hear all the facets of the production that your tinny head phones might not convey so well. It’s a great album no matter what, but if all that doesn’t convince you to pick up the vinyl copy – the artwork on the inside of the gatefold should be enough to push you.”
